If you are beginning a career in mathematical research you are invited from 16-18 April 2009 to the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, University of Cambridge. Our aim is to develop a stronger network between mathematics graduate communities in the UK and internationally. The majority of conference participants are likely to be those who began a PhD in mathematics within the last five years, but this is a guideline only.
The idea of Beyond Part III is that it's definitely not just for ex-Part III students. If you've never heard of Part III then we particularly want you to come! Some of our funding is specifically for those with no prior connection to Cambridge. (Part III is a one year graduate course in Cambridge – the majority of students then go on to do PhDs elsewhere). It's also really important that ex-Part III students encourage friends from their institution to come, so that we can set up good links between PhD students at different universities. We believe this will be very useful for young researchers wanting to apply for academic positions after their PhD.
What's happening at this conference? Around a dozen sessions covering different research areas will be run for one and a half days, each including a keynote talk from a more senior researcher in that field. Plenty of social events are also planned. For more details see the programme.
The official registration deadline has now passed, with more than 190 people already registered. Since we may have a limited number of places left, please feel free to complete the registration form and we will contact you if you can still attend. We now also have a Facebook group. Please join!
